Selected Case Studies of Trafficking
Detailed stories of domestic workers trafficked into forced labor. One of the many faces of forced labor that remains least understood is exploitation in the domestic work sector. Domestic workers remain one of the most vulnerable social groups and overwhelmingly face exploitation, discrimination and coercion because of the nature of their work and its close link to trafficking.
This book puts a human face to the struggles of domestic workers caught in the nexus of two inter-connected social phenomena – trafficking for exploitation, and exploitation in forced labor. This book presents selected real-life stories of domestic workers that show how they became trapped in the cycle of trafficking for forced labor. Although many have fallen victim to this practice, there is much that can be learned from their strong personal courage to survive and empower themselves despite the odds. May their struggles and success teach us and inspire us to help more domestics.
