More than 300 domestic workers, trade union leaders, government officials, non-government organizations, employers' groups, and other stakeholders came together last August 20-21, 2009 for the Second National Domestic Workers Summit.
The Summit was crucial in coming up with a unified Philippine position to the International Labor Conference in June 2010. It also resulted in a comprehensive set of recommendations, which includes the passage of a Philippine Magna Carta for Domestic Workers or the Batas Kasambahay, that serves as basis for Philippine initiatives to improve the conditions of work and lives of domestic workers.
