Philippine government, private sector intensify the war against human trafficking
All freedom-loving people must unite to fight human trafficking.
This is the clear and unequivocal message that will be sent by the Inter-agency Council Against Trafficking (IACAT) and the civil society-led Multi-Sectoral Network Against Trafficking (MSNAT) during the Commitment Week Against Human Trafficking from March 13th to 18th 2011.
The Commitment Week is composed of a series of activities that will provide various platforms for diverse leaders from different sectors and fields to commit to providing immediate and appropriate response mechanisms and address human trafficking in the areas of prevention, protection, healing and reintegration.
Below is the list of activities of the week long event:
Sunday, 13 March 2011 - Run Against Trafficking (RAT) Race at the McKinley Hill. 
The Run Against Trafficking Race (RAT Race) will kick-off the Commitment Week. More than 3,000 runners will come together to help raise awareness on the issue of human trafficking. The RAT Race is organized by Zonta (Ayala Makati) - a global organization of executives and professionals working together to advance the status of women worldwide. Monday through Friday, 14-18 March 2011 - Photo Exhibit: Mga Liham ni Neneng (Letters of Neneng) at the Philippine Senate. The photo exhibit, entitled Mga Liham ni Neneng (Letters of Neneng), will reveal to the public the real situation of human trafficking in the Philippines. It will highlight individual stories of trafficking survivors and those who have endured domestic servitude. The exhibit aims to raise awareness on the increasing need to amend the present anti-trafficking law. It will encourage people to take action and join the War against Human Trafficking.
Tuesday, 15 March 2011 - Commitment Day Against Trafficking at Crowne Plaza, Manila. The highlight of the week-long celebration is the Commitment Day. More than 200 leaders and captains of industries, local government champions, and supporters from faith-based organizations, civic groups, and the academe will deliver their concrete, action-oriented and measurable commitments to help fight human trafficking.
US Ambassador Harry Thomas, UK Ambassador Stephen Lillie, Australian Ambassador Rod Smith and other members of the diplomatic corps will deliver their solidarity messages. Department of Justice Secretary Leila de Lima, Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo and other heads of government agencies will join the celebration.
Several local government officials with outstanding practice in combating trafficking will also share experience. Mayor Celso Lobregat of Zamboanga, among other local executives, will impart his expertise and experience in fighting human trafficking in his area.
Wednesday, 16 March 2011 - Survivors’ Fun Day at Museo Pambata. Survivors’ Fun Day is a celebration of the survivors’ triumphs and a call to awareness and action to end trafficking and exploitation. In partnership with the Museo Pambata, the activity aims to empower the survivors to be an advocate for the cause and provide inspiration to others by sharing stories of triumph and hope. This event will include entertaining activities such as games, contests, storytelling and a showcase of the survivors’ talents.
Friday, 18 March 2011 - Forum and Film Showing Malcolm Theater, University of the Philippines College of Law . The forum will bring together law practitioners, development workers and the members of the academe to discuss the enforcement of Republic Act 9208 and give practical recommendations on how to ensure efficiency, accountability, and transparency in the prosecution of RA 9208 cases. A screening of the award-winning film Halaw will be held after the Forum. The film depicts the rigors and dangers that Filipinos experience in search of that elusive greener pasture.
