Domestic workers, local execs bring to life to popular bill
|
Last April 24, was Domestic Workers' Day in the Philippines. Domestic workers continue to fight for their own rights by promising to gather a million signatures that aim to push for the passage of a law that protects them. The Batas Kasambahay continues to prove that it can be implemented. The Quezon City brings life to the principles of the proposed law by becoming the first local government to require massive registration of domestic workers.

IACAT-MSNAT Joint Planning on Trafficking
Members of the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking in Persons (IACAT) and Multi-Sectoral Network Against Trafficking in Persons (MSNAT) held the IACAT-MSNAT Joint Planning last January 26-27, 2005 at the Traders Hotel Manila.
The Joint Planning provided a venue to update on organizational initiatives and to brainstorm and plan for future areas of collaboration between the two bodies.

Strategic Planning of the National Taskforce Against Trafficking in Persons
Abstract. The Philippines is a source, transit and a destination country of victims of trafficking, especially children and women. Within the country itself, hundreds of minors dissolve into prostitution and other different forms of abusive work. Scattered and invisible, they become very hard to reach and rescue. While this problem has been there for so long, a comprehensive set of strategies of prevention, prosecution and protection must still be sustained.

DAVAO PORT AUTHORITIES, NGO TIGHTENS GRIP AGAINST TRAFFICKERS
The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) and the Visayan Forum Foundation (VF) launched today a halfway house called "Balay Silungan sa Daungan" inside the Sasa Port providing 24-hour safety and catchment services for trafficking victims including temporary shelter, help-desk assistance about travel, quick case referrals and telephone hotline counseling.
