The Policy and Advocacy Resource Center
The Philippines is considered a leader in the fight against trafficking and slavery for its passage of landmark policies against human trafficking, abuse of domestic workers, child labor and gender discrimination. While the country demonstrates promising economic progress, the cases of human trafficking and other exploitation remain rampant.
To continue empowering and leading people in the fight to end human trafficking and modern slavery, Visayan Forum, through its Policy and Advocacy Resource Center develops and shares relevant knowledge to fuel policy reform and build the capacities of partner social innovators.
Here are Visayan Forum’s many knowledge-based resources.
What You Need to Know

Many Filipino women and children are trafficked within and across international borders.
Every day, thousands attempt to escape poverty and/or conflict, but often end up in conditions of involuntary servitude and exploitation in brothels, factories, agricultural plantations, and as abused domestic workers. Most of them lack knowledge on safe migration and red-flag indicators of trafficking. They are also unaware of the dangers of new methods of recruitment, such as social media. Cultural acceptance and family pressure also contribute to the normalization of using unsafe channels of migration.
Those that previously were victims of trafficking often face discrimination, especially those who were trafficked into sex labor. They also have difficulty accessing further educational or employment opportunities. Those who were abused also face the difficult recovery from trauma towards reintegration into society.

What You Need to Have
Traffickers are organized, methodical and have substantial resources that they use to run massive webs of deceit. They fertilize the culture of consumerism and capitalize on the weak faith and vulnerabilities of relationships between people – families, schools and communities. They use trusted people in the communities to lure vulnerable victims.
As such, we as fighters are called on to join hands and work together as well. The fight against human trafficking is not won alone.
As leaders in the fight. Visayan Forum does not only wish to inspire and mobilize other fighters, we endeavor to equip and empower innovators and everyday fighters.
