We thank you for your relentless and dedicated efforts to help pass the Magna Carta for Household Helpers. However, it still faces difficulties in the Senate and a looming deadline before the elections come May 2004. AS CHURCH LEADERS

We seek guidance and support of religious leaders from different denominations, congregations, and inter-faith movements to:

1. Organize and bridge us to employers' groups

  • Sponsor Kasambahay and child labor orientations for employers
  • Encourage use of contracts
  • Set up counseling for employers

2. Engage in advocacy through radio stations, parish newsletters, bible studies, prayer brigades, homilies and sermons

  • To convince employers to allow their domestic workers to study again
  • Sponsor liturgical services honoring domestic workers
  • Hold specially-designed prayer events specifically for the intentions of domestic workers
  • Push our government to enact more effective laws to protect these children

3. Set up lay apostolate programs for helping domestic workers and employers alike such as to:

  • Counsel and mediate between domestic workers and their employers
  • Conduct values education sessions for domestic workers and their employers
  • Make your organization's facilities available for their meetings
  • Sponsor skills training, as well as educational and recreational activities
  • Generate donations of educational supplies for domestic workers who are pursuing their studies
