However, it still faces difficulties in the Senate and a looming deadline before the elections come May 2004. We recognize your difficulties such as:

  • Lack of reliable data to humanize their stories

  • Very few available experts and organizations working on the issue

  • Limited topics because of lack of data

  • Initial employer resistance (but this can be overcome through responsible handling of news and stories)

  • Taking special consideration to young employers (children of employers)

But you can contribute to social change by considering the following actions.

  1. Cover public awareness-raising activities to change the perception of domestic work throughout society.

  2. Practice responsible journalism and media ethics; observe sensitivity to the issues of domestic work.

  3. Set up radio counseling programs for abused domestic workers.

  4. Develop 'news and talk' program which will contain more in-depth programming about the treatment of domestic workers and about VF's Kasambahay programme.

  5. Popularize and localize the provisions of the Batas Kasambahay.
