National Consultation for Children's World Congress on Child Labor
September 26-28, 2003, Fabella Compound Mandaluyong City

The Global March Against Child Labour is sponsoring the Children's World Congress Against Child Labor on 10-16 May 2004 in Florence, Italy. The World Congress will bring together 500 children in an effort to strengthen genuine children participation in decision-making and empower children to lead worldwide efforts to end child labour and ensure free, quality education for all children.

The objectives of the World Congress are:
  1. To give children a platform to share their experiences and learn from one another while discovering other's challenges, accomplishments, and dreams in order to further their role as leaders in the struggle against child labor
  2. To remind governments of the promises they made to children when they ratified ILO Convention 182 and 138 and the UN Convention of the Rights of the Child, and urge governments to fulfill their obligations ensuring that child labour and education becomes both national and international priority issues
  3. To enhance and strengthen child participation in all processes of decision-making, ensuring that children's participation becomes an important part of policy-making processes
  4. To enhance child and youth movements against child labour in order to motivate young people to take actions against child labour
  5. To urge international organizations to increase their support to programs aimed at eradicating child labour, poverty reduction, achieving universal, free and quality education for all children.
  6. To urge the international community to take concrete and effective measures to achieve tangible, time-bound goals to eradicate child labour and poverty and aim at achieving universal, free, and quality education for all children
  7. To elicit the interest of more people and organisations to support the cause of the rights of children.

As the National Coordinator of Global March, the Visayan Forum Foundation, Inc. is tasked to conduct preparatory activities at the national level aimed at selecting and preparing delegates to the World Congress, ensuring broad support and participation from all stakeholders, and facilitating the development of a National Action Agenda that would be presented during the World Congress.

In fulfillment of these tasks, Visayan Forum Foundation, Inc. will hold a National Consultation Meeting on the Children's World Congress on September 26-28, 2003 at the Fabella. The National Consultation will serve as the kick-off event for a series of activities leading to the World Congress.
