| Maribel's father died when she was still very young. Her mother was
forced to give Maribel away to relatives. She eventually ended up working as a
child domestic worker in other households. She went through verbal abuses. One
day, a man encouraged her to venture in higher-paying households Manila and she
decided to go with him. During her trip aboard a passenger vessel, she overheard
from her recruiter that the bag she was entrusted was actually full of illegal
drugs. Maribel managed to escape as the ship docked but her companion, another
young girl, was left behind. In this melodrama, the issue of child trafficking
interweaves with the underlying problems of domestic work and drug trafficking
and how many adults deceive the childhood of many children like Maribel. |
