Executive Summary of 2nd Regional Consultation in Manila

The Task Force CDW comprising CWA partners in South and Southeast Asia was developed in 1996 with Visayan Forum Foundation as convenor. Shoishab (Bangladesh) hosted regional exchange programmes for field workers in 1997. A number of national activities were organized to follow up on the exchange, namely public awareness raising, baseline surveys, seminars/workshops in Indonesia, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The first regional consultation on child domestic work was organized by Visayan Forum (Philippines) with CWA in 1998. That same year, CWA published a booklet, Behind Closed Doors: Child Domestic Workers, the Situation and the Response. The booklet presents the lives of child domestic workers in many countries in Asia, and amplifies the voices of the few children who had the opportunity to tell of the reality of their lives.
