The Children's World Congress on Child Labor is an international event that aims to go beyond the common perception of child participation: It aims to give children an opportunity to be the key decision-makers in the production of a new Children's Charter which will be presented to world leaders. The World Congress is not just an event; it is a process. A series of activities will take place one year from the World Congress, which will culminate in the actual World Congress in Italy, and which will continue on with planned actions decided upon in the World Congress.
In the Children's World Congress, children themselves will determine best practice interventions that apply to them, based on existing programs in their own country and regions. Being the actual beneficiaries of government and private sector programs, these children are in the best position to say which are effective based on experience. The World Congress will likewise serve as a venue for children to share their experiences, concerns, challenges and dreams.
The goal of the World Congress is to empower children by providing them an opportunity to emerge as social activists and world leaders at the forefront of the fight for children's rights.
